Double Lake in Sam Houston National Forest

Fog was thick and temperature was cool for a birthday weekend at Double Lake Recreation Area of Sam Houston National Forest in Coldsprings, Texas. Lots on paved hiking trails and a hot shower and toilets close by.  Although the sun never came out, the temperature was quite pleasant.  The park was busy for an end of February weekend.  We had power and water but no sewer since we were next to the lake.  Beautiful bird watching with a bench over the water.

In the evening we were able to get about 10 channels when the antenna was raised.  One local CW it get any news.

Good fire pit to keep us warm and toasty with the dried oak. Watch out for the drop off behind the RV at night.  It was a doozy and a head splitter.

Cooking Red Velvet Stout Beer Chili: 1/2 red onion diced, 2 cloves of garlic smashed, 1 package of Williams seasoning, black beans, chili hamburger, pepper, cumin, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 small can of tomato paste, 1 cup of Buffalo Bayou red velvet stout . Cook for a couple hours or more in the dutch oven (simmer, no rapid boil) (as cooking drain the fat off the meat to brown the meat).

Posthumous, Happy 16th Birthday baby girl, Whitley, we love you and miss you so much
Peach Cobbler in 10 inch dutch oven: 2 cans of peaches, 1 cup of bisquick, cinnamon, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of milk, bake for 45 minutes about 350F, scoop of vanilla ice cream
Overgrown forest that needs a thinning or a prescribe burn badly.  Compared that to Angelina or Davy Crockett National Forest, it looks bad.
